Gladysdale Chardonnay awarded 95 points

There are few honours in Australian wine that speak as loudly as a 95-point score from the Halliday Wine Companion. For the 2022 Santolin Gladysdale Chardonnay, this accolade marks another landmark in a remarkable run for Santolin Wines, reaffirming its place among the Yarra Valley’s most expressive cool-climate Chardonnays.

Sourced from the Willowlake Vineyard in the Upper Yarra township of Gladysdale, the 2022 Gladysdale Chardonnay is a testament to thoughtful winemaking and exceptional fruit quality. Hand-picked fruit was whole-bunch pressed and wild-fermented in French oak, with a portion fermented on skins for added texture, before ten months on lees brought richness and nuance. This minimalist, site-driven approach is a hallmark of our style and offers both purity and depth.

Of the wine, Halliday's reviewer Philip Rich writes "With its aromas of white peach and nectarine, grilled cashew and a little sea spray, this is a touch riper and richer than the '21. It's creamily textured and gently unctuous, in a good way, on the palate before finishing saline and long. It's in a good place now but will also cellar well over the next two to three years, if not longer."

Halliday’s scoring system is one of the country’s most respected benchmarks, with 95 points denoting wines of exceptional quality, those that excite with both their craftsmanship and drinkability.

Available directly from our online store as well as select independent wine stores and restaurants, this highly awarded wine won't be around for long with only 260 dozen produced.
