2020 Santolin 'Gladysdale'
Chardonnay

This 2020 Chardonnay is produced from fruit grown on a single block from the Willowlake vineyard in Gladysdale, Upper Yarra Valley. It has been crafted with minimal intervention, using natural fermentation, no fining and only a single filtration before bottling.

Hand picking commenced on March 25th 2020. Grapes were chilled overnight then whole bunch pressed, and the juice transferred to a mixture of new and old French oak barrels. A portion of the grapes were fermented on skins to add texture and mouthfeel. Once dry, the wine was left to mature on lees until blending, where the wine underwent a single, course filtration before bottling.

"From the Willowlake vineyard. Whole-bunched pressed and fermented in 300L French barrels (30% new). An impressive wine from the first, with its aromas of stone fruits, grilled nuts and discreet, well-judged struck match. There are white nectarines and grapefruit pith on the mouth-watering palate, and I like the touch of grip on the long finish, derived, most probably, from one barrel that was a whole-berry ferment. A lovely effort."
