Santolin takes out ‘Best New World Chardonnay’ trophy at 2014 Hong Kong IWSC

Santolin Wines have been awarded the prestigious ‘Best New World Chardonnay,’ trophy for their 2013 Individual Vineyard Chardonnay at the 2014 Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Competition today.

Made from fruit grown on a single vineyard in the Yarra Valley, this is the fourth trophy win for their inaugural 2013 Santolin Chardonnay.  Judging for the show took place between 6-9th October and entries spanned more than 30 countries.

“To be awarded ‘Best New World Chardonnay’ at an International level for my first Chardonnay release is truly amazing, and more than I could have ever hoped it would achieve. I’m stoked!” said Adrian of the win.

This year marked the inaugural release of his Chardonnay and the second vintage of Adrian’s Yarra Valley Pinot Noir.  Both have been met with critical acclaim, with the 2013 Individual Vineyard Pinot Noir receiving 96 points and the 2013 Chardonnay 95 points in James Halliday’s 2015 Wine Companion.

The Chardonnay was also awarded three trophies in Adrian’s home town of Griffith in September, taking home ‘Best Wine of Show,’ ‘Best White Wine,’ and ‘Best One Year Old Chardonnay,’ at the 2014 Riverina Wine Show.

Both wines were also selected in the Top 100 wines of the inaugural VIC100 wine awards in September.

The resounding success of his first two vintages have paved the way for his soon to be bottled 2014 vintage wines which will include the third release of his Individual Vineyard Pinot Noir, and the addition of a Nero d’Avola and barrel aged Sauvignon.
